Broken and Frozen Pipes

Colorado Cleanup Services, Inc. Water Pipes break in Colorado EVERY DAY. It could be caused by a connection coming loose, a carpenter’s nail installed TOO CLOSE to the pipe, vibration finally taking its toll and of course outside temperatures falling below zero for several days…but it does happen and knowing what to do can definitely minimize the damage and expense. FIRST OF ALL be sure and know where the Main Water Valve is in your home. Also, be sure EVERY MEMBER of your household knows where it is and how to turn it off. Once you discover the leak, immediately turn off the water to prevent additional damage. In case of subzero temperatures: 1. Disconnect outside hoses 2. Winterize your lawn sprinkler systems 3. Check the outside of your house for any cracks or openings. 4. Make sure you have sufficient insulation in your exterior walls 5. Leave your thermostat set no lower than 65 degrees when you are going to be away. When you do have a water event in your property….getting everything dried out quickly and completely can save your thousands of dollars in potential secondary damage, i.e. Mold, rot and bad odors. Time is not on your side and you can’t tell if your structure is wet by simply touching it. Moisture Meters and knowing where to check is critical to ensure everything is dry.  Colorado Cleanup Services, Inc.
