Hiring a Roofing Contractor
Stellar Roofing and SolarWhen it's time to select a roofing contractor, remember that all roofing contractors are not alike. A new roof is a big investment. Take your time and make a smart decision. Use good common sense and follow these guidelines.
· Know that anything you sign — no matter what you are told — is a binding contract! Make sure the agreement includes cost, type of material, warranties and payment terms. Do not make any verbal agreements nor sign a contract that does not have a cost!
· Don't pay for work or materials in advance. Roofers who take down payments and never satisfactorily complete the job is the most common BBB complaint about roofers.
· Don't proceed without the contractor's proof of workers compensation and general liability insurance. Check with the insurance company to see if it's still in force.
· Avoid hiring a storm chasing roofer since they may not be around to honor warranties. “Team Dave Logan” means local roofers with good reviews.
· Contact your Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints on file against the contractor.
· Ask the contractor for a copy of his license and make sure a permit is pulled before work begins. You may want to verify this information with your city or county and see if there are any complaints on file.

When to Replace Your Roof
TeamDaveLogan.comOf course there are the obvious signs it is time to replace your roof, like if the inside of your home gets just as wet as the outside during a rain storm or if you can see the sun when you look up in your living room. But how do you know when to replace your roof if the signs aren't so obvious?
Below are a few helpful tips:
- Asphalt shingles usually have a life cycle of about 20-25 years. If it has been about that long since you have replaced your roof, it might be time to send an expert out to your home.
- If all your neighbors are replacing their roofs, it might be a good idea to do yours, as it will help maintain the value of your home. It may also be a good indicated that your roof might have reached the end of it's life since most homes in neighborhoods are built about the same time.
- If your roof is functional, but perhaps has some stains that are affecting your curb appeal, it might be time for a new one, especially if you are looking to sell.
